The Waylon Run was started by Los Santos MC in 2010. Inspired by our love for outlaw country music, we wanted to honor Waylon Jennings by doing a ride on his birthday weekend (June 15th). In the past the Waylon Run route took us to Waylon’s grave site at the Mesa City Cemetery, then we would ride up to Canyon Lake for swimming and cliff jumping, then grab some food at Mammoth Steak House and Saloon located in the Goldfield Ghost Town, and finally we would end the weekend of Waylon by heading to the Waylon Birthday Bash presented by Valley Fever and The Waylon Fund.
The Waylon Run is one of our favorite runs of the year. In previous years we’ve had amazing local country musicians/bands play such as Tony Martinez, Ray Lawrence Jr., James Parks, Jeremy Manley, The Tommy Ash Band, and Trailer Queen. Everyone has a good time riding to the lake and then going to the Waylon Birthday Bash later that night and seeing even more great country musicians play. We’ve also made it a point to donate a portion of any money we make off our merch sales to The Waylon Fund.
Unfortunately though, The Waylon Fund is no longer in existence. So this year we will be choosing a different charitable organization to donate money to. We’ve also received a lot feed back from friends and supporters about how hot it is in June in Phoenix, AZ. Most years it’s usually around 115 – 120 degrees during the day when we do all our riding. We usually leave around 10:00 a.m. and don’t get back to Tempe till 4:00 or so.
So a couple years ago we changed it up a bit. The main thing we changed is the time of year we do the run. Even though we love doing the run on Waylon’s birthday, doing it in June makes the ride miserable cause it’s so damn hot. Last year we did the run on April 5th when the temperature is PERFECT out. The Chapel, our clubhouse, tends to get pretty packed too with how many bikers and friends have been attending the run previous years. For the 7th Annual Waylon Run we are hosting the party at Chilleens on 17 in Black Canyon City which is about 20 minutes outside of Phoenix. There will be live music from 3 + bands with the option of camping over night (which is free). For the 7th Annual Waylon Run we are riding to Waylon’s grave on Saturday morning. We are rallying at Los Santos MC’s clubhouse located at 1746 E Madison St #5 Phoenix, AZ. The pack will leave at 11:30 am to head to Waylon’s grave and then we will ride up to Chilleen’s on 17 too party and see the show .
We’re extremely excited for this years Waylon Run! Way more bikers and friends are going to attend this year, the bands are awesome, and it won’t be HOT as HELL out!
Looking forward to seeing you all there.
